"Restoration and Improvement of Ancient Instruments"

Scientific Laboratory "Restoration and Improvement of Ancient Instruments" was established in 1991.

It is intended for scientific elaboration, restoration and improvement of the mediaeval Azerbaijan instruments.

Poems, miniatures, museum exhibits and decorative applied works of the Middle ages Azerbaijan classics are the basic source of its work.

Cheng, berbet, rud, rubab, sentur, tembur, chogur, chegana, gopuz, ag ney were repaired as a result of scientific searching. The mediaeval sound systems were improved and brought to perfection. The performing methodology was worked out.

By the order of Azerbaijan Republic President Heydar Aliyev "Ancient musical instruments" ensemble under Majnun Karimov's leadership was honored by State status.

At present the ensemble carries out its activities at the State Museum of Music Culture. "Nakhish besta" and "Haydernama" by Abdulgadir Maragai (XIV) sound in ensemble's repertoire side by side with folk music.
