I Republic Competition among young pianists
"Best Pianist of the Year" was held in 1996, May 1-14.

The Union of Azerbaijan musicians, Baku Musical Academy named after U.Hajibeyov and Azerbaijan International Operation Company (AIOC) were founders of the Competition.

AIOC was a sponsor of the Competition.

The Chairman of Organization committee of the Competition was Rector of BMA, Professor F.S.Badalbeyli.

The Chairman of Jury was Professor of BMA R.T.Guliev, the Deputy Chairman was President of AIOC Terry Adams.

Competition conditions:

There are 2 age groups participating in the Competition: a younger group - till 16 and an elder one - from 17 to 35.

Organization committee gives 3 prizes and 2 diplomas in every group.

Competition is held in 3 rounds.

33 persons took part in the younger age group, 16 persons - in the elder one.

Murad Adigezalsadeh was recognized the Best Pianist of the Year.
